Obituary of Doris M. Yacobelli
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Doris M. Yacobelli, 81 of Utica went home to the arms of the Lord on Sunday December 26, 2010. Her passing was unexpected, yet peaceful, because she was surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Doris was born in Delhi, NY on September 14, 1929 the daughter of Lynn and Edna (Wardell) Liddle. She was a graduate of Waterville Central School, class of 1947 and attended Utica School of Commerce preparing herself for the pool of businessmen looking for a qualified secretary. After only two months at USC she went to work as a legal secretary with Latimer, Senior and Quinn, attorneys at law. She continued her legal secretary career with the Law firm of Abelove, Meyers and Rosenbloom and spent nights working for John P. Balio, Esq. and Rocco Mascaro, Esq. After her marriage to Guy A. Yacobelli in 1949, and the birth of her third child, she filled in at the Utica City Court House as a stenographer and for 6 months worked for Judge John J. Walsh as his legal secretary. She declined the court's offer to become the full time court stenographer because of her family obligations at home which were always her first priority. After 21 years of being a dedicated homemaker, Doris once again found herself in the workplace, handling the city marshal's files, records and banking which needed daily monitoring. During this time, she lovingly and tirelessly cared for her ill husband in the comfort of their home with a tenderness she knew he could get nowhere else. Her career concluded, when she retired as legal secretary for Gordon Jeffrey, Attorney at Law. Doris enjoyed reading, sewing and had a green thumb for gardening. She had beautiful penmanship and a gift for writing poetry. As a certified foster mother, Doris provided the priceless gift of love and guidance to children who were most in need. Her love for her grandchildren and most of the neighborhood children allowed her to mentor and provide support at the crucial time in their young lives. She was proud to be of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of St. Matthew's Churches. Mrs. Yacobelli is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Doug Richardson of Utica, Heidi and Clark Weston of Holland Patent and Anne and Steve Miles of Holland Patent; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Karen Yacobelli of Marcy and Albert and Patricia Yacobelli of Frankfort; ten grandchildren, Cristel, Julie, Kim, Ann, Susan, Tami, Stefani, Anthony, Luke and Sam; three step-grandchildren, Juli, Melissa and Megan; one sister, Virginia Warchol of Clinton; two brothers, Lynn Liddle of Delancey, NY and Bruce Liddle of Binghamton, NY; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Guy in 1972. In keeping with Doris' wishes, services and burial will be private and at the convenience of her family. Those wishing to make a donation in Doris' memory, please consider, Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502 or St. Matthews Churches, PO Box 21056, Tulsa, OK 74121-9901. I'm Free Don't grieve for me, For now I'm free; I'm following the path God laid for me. I took His hand When I heard Him Call. I turned my back and left it all. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; Don't lengthen it now with undo grief. God wanted me now.. He set me free.
