Howard L. Peters, 86 of New Hartford passed away Friday, December 17, 2010. Howard was born November 24, 1924 in Utica the son of Clarence and Margaret (McSweeny) Peters. He served in the U.S. First Army Service Command from 1945 to 1947. Howard was a graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College and Utica College. On April 28, 1951 he married the former Mary Alexander of Whitesboro. Howard, who was a licensed insurance agent, was retired from Utica National Insurance. Howard was predeceased by his daughter Nancy and his sister Margaret. Besides his loving wife Mary, Howard is survived by four children, daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and David Long of Whitesboro, three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Nancy Peters of Flower Mound, TX, Thomas Peters of Holland Patent and Daniel and Beth Peters of Midland, TX, a daughter-in-law, Luann Peters, Rome, six grandchildren, William Slivinski, Joshua Peters, Jamie Peters, Meghan Peters, Sean Peters and Brett McCloskey, and in-laws, Jim and Kathleen Alexander, Hanover, PA. Mr. Peters' funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers those so wishing may make donations to the Abraham House in Howard's memory. Howard's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Daniel Goodman, Shelly and the entire staff on the Allen Calder Wing West, Maggie on Barton Wing of the St. Luke's Home and neighbors Lenore and Jim.
