Mrs. Katherine I. Gaspa, 86, a resident of the Mulberry House at Sitrin Health Care Center in New Hartford, formerly of Utica and Frankfort passed away on Saturday, December 18th 2010 with her loving daughters by her side. Katherine was born in Frankfort, NY on March 11, 1924 the daughter of Lawrence and Josephine (Simonetti) DiMaggio and received her education in Frankfort schools. On September 20, 1947, Katherine married Matthew Roger Gaspa at St. Mary's Church in Frankfort, a loving and devoted union of 62 years until Matthew's passing in 2009. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, and past member of the former Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica. It brought her great joy to be involved in expressions of her faith. Katherine was most at home with her loved ones and in the kitchen where she enjoyed making beautiful meals for her family and friends and especially enjoyed making traditional meals and desserts for the holidays. Mrs. Gaspa is survived by her two loving and devoted daughters, Katherine I. Clark of New Hartford, and Gerrie Gaspa of Utica; her beloved granddaughter, Valerie Sitler of Miami Beach, FL; cherished great grandson, Benjamin Matthew Sitler of Miami Beach, FL; two sisters Pearl Roberts of Prescott, AZ and Saundra Jean Dreikorn of Jupiter Island, FL, and her devoted niece Gail Kennedy of Prescott, AZ and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Charlie DiMaggio and Rev. Joseph DiMaggio. Mrs. Gaspa Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Those wishing to make a donation in Katherine's memory may consider a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the Nurses and CNA's of the Mulberry House especially Kristine who assisted her daily. Despite consistent staffing shortages these angels managed to care for their patients with love, kindness and compassion. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. Utica.
