Robert C. (Bob) Jones, 77, of Deerfield, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a long illness. Bob was born in Utica on October 24, 1933, the son of Walter and Irene (Clark) Jones. He was raised and educated locally and in 1950 joined the US Navy, serving his country during the Korean War. On May 14, 1955, Bob married Melba Perry in Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica, and shared a blessed union of 55 years. Bob was employed and retired from the Buck Apartments in Utica. He belonged to the American Legion Post #229, Utica, the Eagles Club, Deerfield, and was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Bob was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Melba Jones, Deerfield; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Natalie Jones, Georgia; and his grandson, Michael Jones, Georgia. He is predeceased by a son, Michael Paul Jones, two grandchildren, Matthew Jones and Tiffany Jones, a sister, Barbara Umbach, and a brother, Walter William Jones. Mr. Jones' funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 12 - 1, prior to the service.
