Francis John "BooBoo" Roth, 87, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Tamarack Street in Utica, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the nursing home. BooBoo was born in Utica on August 1, 1923, the son of Frank J. and R. Mary (Zobel) Roth. He was raised and educated in Utica, attending St. Joseph's, Sacred Heart, and Utica Free Academy schools. He then went on to proudly serve his country during World War II with General Patton's 3rd Army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. On April 28, 1951, BooBoo married Rosemary (Rorie) Casalette in Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica, and shared a union of over 59 years. He was employed with Plumbers & Steamfitters Local # 79, working with several local contractors. He was a member of the Welfare and Pension Fund Board; a sports enthusiast, he was a member of Scholl's Hotel Fast Pitch softball team, and was a diehard NY Yankee fan. BooBoo was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Family came first to BooBoo; he was dedicated to his son's and grandsons' activities. A caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather, BooBoo is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary Roth, New Hartford; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Cindy Roth, Utica; two grandsons, Robert and Connor Roth, Utica; two sisters, Arlene and Jane Roth, Utica; a sister-in-law, Frances Johnpoll, New Hartford, as well as by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by dear friends, Casimer and Karen Szczesniak, Gurnal and Geraldine Jones. Besides his parents, BooBoo is predeceased by a sister, Mary Adelaide Roth. Mr. Roth's funeral will take place Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 9:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 10:00 am at St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church, Utica where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening, from 4 - 8 pm. Those wishing may donate to the Presbyterian Home for CNY or to the Tourette Syndrome Association in Mr. Roth's memory. The family extends their deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, especially the Cedar Wing, for the excellent care and compassion shown to BooBoo and his family during his stay.
