Philomena M. (Garramone) Le Porte, 102, of Schuyler, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on March 5, 1908, Philomena was the daughter of Rocco and Rose (Pisano) Garramone. She was raised and educated in Utica. On June 12, 1928, Philomena married Giacomo Le Porte. They shared 72 years in a union graced with happiness, humor, and love before Giacomo passed away in 1999. They always knew how important they were to each other and their family. They cherished their only child, Anthony. Philomena was once employed as a seamstress with Oneata Knitting Mill in Utica. Philomena was a member of St. Mark's Church, North Utica and of the St. Mark's Altar Rosary Society. Philomena was a mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend and was cherished by all. She loved sewing, crocheting, and knitting and cooking and baking. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family. She loved to have everyone gather together. Sunday dinners, birthday parties, and holiday gatherings were especially important to her. She lived a life full of laughter and joy. She will be missed greatly. Philomena is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anthony (Nancy) LePorte, Utica; by five grandchildren and their spouses, Mary Lourdes and John Durdan, Whitesboro, Suzanne LePorte, Utica, Jacquelyn and Ron Starsiak, Deerfield, Anthony LePorte, Utica, Michelle and Edward Simpson, Deerfield; nine great grandchildren, Tasha and Michael Peterson, Sheena and Michael Shwamle, Kristin Klotz, Jessica Klotz, Isabella Starsiak, Ronnie Starsiak, Victoria Simpson, Eddie Simpson, and Emma Simpson; and eight great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Carmella Graziano, Whitesboro, and a brother, Michael Garramone, Utica, and sister-in-law, Lena Garramone, Frankfort, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband, Philomena is predeceased by her beloved son, Anthony L. LePorte in 1990, whom she loved with all her heart; a sister, Madeline Napoli; seven brothers, Lawrence, Joe, Frank, Rocco, John, Louis, and Stephen Garramone and a special sister-in-law, Julie Garramone. Her passing will leave a large void in the lives of people who loved her most, but she will never be forgotten. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Philomena LePorte's funeral which will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 10:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica, and at 11:00 am at St. Mark's Church, North Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday evening, from 4 - 7 pm. The family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to the ER and Fourth floor nurses at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center for all the loving care shown to our grandmother.
