Obituary of Francis P. Spring

Mr. Francis P. Spring, 84 of N. Utica passed away on Sunday October 3, 2010 at the St. Luke's Home in New Hartford. Francis was born in Utica on November 28, 1925 the son of Frank and Anna (Massago) Spring and received his education in Utica schools. He honorably served in the US Navy during WW II. On July 11, 1953, Francis married Josephine (Judgie) A. Carletta at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, NY. For 35 years, he was employed with Marcy State Hospital retiring in 1981. After retirement he went to work in the Athletic department at New Hartford High School. Francis was a member of St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Utica. He enjoyed baseball, softball and bowling and participated in the Marcy State baseball league and various other baseball, softball and bowling leagues in the Utica area. He was also an avid golfer having achieved a hole-in-one at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Whitesboro and was a huge NY Yankee and Green Bay Packers fan. Mr. Spring is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine (Judgie); one daughter and son-in-law, Donna Jo and Robert Oderkirk of N. Utica and two cherished grandchildren, Jessica "His Sweetheart" Dunn and Kevin "Big Guy" Dunn, both of N. Utica; He is also survived by several, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, especially his dear sister-in-law, Nina Pettinelli of Rome and special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Angelo and Louise Carletta of Westmoreland. In keeping with Francis' wishes there are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Spring's funeral mass of Christian burial on Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 11:30 am at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Utica. A private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville. Those wishing to make a donation in Francis' name, please consider the American Cancer Society. Mr. Spring's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jerry Sloan and his Staff and the staff's on Clark North and Barton East at the St. Luke's Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to Francis.
