Mr. Acee M. Acee, Sr., 93, of Whitesboro, NY, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica, NY. Acee was born September l8, 1916 in Clark Mills, NY, the son of Moses and Rose Acee. He was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. At a very young age, he had ambitions of becoming a pilot and acquired his private pilot's license at the age of 16 and furthered his flying career by becoming certified as an A&E (aircraft and engine) Mechanic. Acee went on to become a flight instructor, graduating from the New York State Aviation School in 1939. He was chief mechanic at the Utica Municipal airport in Marcy, NY during World War II, supervising 20 mechanics that supported wartime aircraft, he also instructed flying to Navy Cadets at Colgate University during the war, and served in the Army Air Corps. After the war, Acee instructed at the Riverside School of Aeronautics. He owned a J-3 Cub and was in his glory taking off and landing in hay fields, and various airports. In later years, he became a member of the Quiet Birdman (QB) Club and the OX-5 Club with his flying buddies. Acee received the prestigious "Charles Taylor Master Mechanics" award for 50 years of service for aviation mechanics from the FAA. He accomplished much in his lifetime. Acee owned and operated Clark Mills Farm Supply for 35 years, was Fire Commissioner and Captain of the Clark Mills Fire Department, served as Supervisor for the Town of Kirkland, was on the board of directors for the Clark Mills Sewer District, and taught at the Utica and Herkimer County BOCES for several years. Along with all of this, Acee loved coming up with new ideas, and became an accomplished inventor. In his teens he invented a cattle prod utilizing a Model 'T' coil long before they were commercially sold. He patented the Omni belt, a temporary fan belt for trucks and automobiles to replace a broken fan belt until the vehicle found the nearest service station. He designed a system for roadside mailboxes utilizing the flag to indicate when there was mail in the box, and many other ideas that were not patented but came on the market years after he designed and built them. Mr. Acee is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Lou; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Denise Acee and Acee M., Jr. and Monica Acee; a daughter, Barbara Acee Walker; a brother, Abe Acee; a sister, Hazel Burns; his granddaughters, Jessica Lou Bohn and Erin Donovan, and great grand children, Maya Lou Kilgore, Clare and Max Donovan, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a two sisters, Susan Misiak and Mary Jabour, and by two brothers, Joe and George Acee. A Memorial Mass will be held for Mr. Acee on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills. Interment in Kirkland Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family. In keeping with Mr. Acee's wishes, there are no calling hours. A reception will be held at Seymour's Diner on Rt. 233, Westmoreland, NY, immediately following the Memorial Mass. Those wishing may donate to the American Heart Association in Mr. Acee's memory.
