Obituary of Sharon Simard Rowan

Mrs. Sharon Simard Rowan, 75, of New Hartford, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Sharon was born in Utica on April 29, 1941, the daughter of Joseph and Evelyn (Schmelzle) Simard. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and attended nursing school at the University of Buffalo. On January 21, 1961, Sharon married Edward R. Rowan at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. For many years, she was employed with Bremer Hearing Aide Services in Utica and more recently with the Rowan Group Inc. in Whitesboro. Sharon was very active in her community, most notably as a volunteer with Hall House for many years. She was an active Parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica and a member the Rotary Ann club of Oriskany/Whitestown. Sharon was a former member of the Oriskany Central School PTA and a former parishioner and Eucharistic Minister at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. Mrs. Rowan is survived by her beloved husband, Edward; one daughter, Renee Rowan Spielberger and her husband Donald of Buffalo; two sons, Mark Rowan and his wife Tanya of New Hartford and Scott Rowan and Shancee Hart of Utica; four cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Rowan, Matthew Rowan, Eric Rowan and Chloe Rowan and two nephews, Steven Gluck and his wife Alison of Utica and David Gluck of Idaho; Sharon is also survived by many close friends, Carole Zyla, Carol Schieble, Jackie Sfeir, Jeanne Schmidt, Laurel Zogby and Fr. Abe Esper, just to mention a very few. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Evelyn, her grandmother whom she was very close with, Grace Schmelzle and her sister, Lynette Simard Gluck-Alexander. Mrs. Rowan's funeral will be held on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:15 a.m. from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Lourdes Church where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Utica.
