Robert G. Gaumer, 74, of Deansboro and Sebring, Florida, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton after a long illness. Bob was born in Utica on March 14, 1936, the son of Norman and Edna (Skelton) Gaumer. He was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from Utica Free Academy. Bob then served his country with the US Army. On October 12, 1957, Bob married Marilyn Young in Utica and shared a union of 52 years. Robert was employed with NY Telephone Co. and later with Verizon. Bob enjoyed camping and cruising at Raquette Lake and was an avid golfer. He was of the protestant faith. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Deansboro; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joi Morris of Clinton, and Sherry and Marvin Van Slyke of Deansboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sharon Gaumer of Oriskany Falls, and Norman and Tammy Gaumer of Clinton;12 grandchildren and one great grandson. Also surviving is a sister, Betty Perrault of New Hartford; a special family friend, June Hanrahan; a friend, David; his canine companion, 'Cailie'; also 4 sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Paul Perrault, Michael Nasso, and John Lindfield. Mr. Gaumer's Memorial Service will be held Friday, July 23, 2010 at 7 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton with Rev. Frederick Ziedner presiding. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home Friday evening from 5 - 7 pm, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, FL in Bob's memory.
