Obituary of James V. Lomanto

James V. Lomanto, 95, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center in New Hartford. Jim was born in Frankfort, NY on April 11, 1915, the son of Antonio and Marianna (Candella) Lomanto. He was raised and educated in Frankfort. On October 15, 1938, Jim married Bernice Techmanski at Holy Trinity Church in Utica. Mrs. Lomanto passed away in 1998. Jim owned and operated Jim's Garage in Kirkland for over 45 years, until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills and belonged to the Yorkville Seniors. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. For the last thirty years, he greatly enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. Jim will be remembered as being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jim is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marion Carroll, Clinton, Anita and Don Stevens, Long Island, Joyce and James Cotter, Westmoreland; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Lila Lomanto, Clinton; eight cherished grandchildren, Donald Carroll, James Carroll, David Carroll, Renee Cranley, Mary Swaim, Amy Lomanto, Todd Cotter and Kimberly Russell, as well as 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Josie Faga, Utica, Lena and George Gazzal, Utica, Mary Bruni, Clinton, Frances and Guy Bonomo, Clark Mills; two brothers, Fred Lomanto, Clinton, Joseph and Patricia Lomanto, Clinton and also by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife, Jim is predeceased by a sister, Sarah Shusky, and a son-in-law, Matthew (Don) Carroll. Mr. Lomanto's funeral will be held Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10:45 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton and 11:30 am at the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps. or to the American Cancer Society in Jim's memory. The family extend their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to Rose, Linda, Nedia, and Zaffa for the loving care provided to Jim at his home over the past several months before his passing.
