Obituary of Gertrude Margaret Lentz

Gertrude Margaret Lentz, 76, a resident of the Heritage Healthcare Center, formerly of Clinton and New Hartford, entered into peace on Thursday, May 20, 2010. Gertrude was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 16, 1934, the daughter of John J. Geisler and Gertrude Caroline nee Holfelder. In 1951, she graduated from St. Agnes Academic School in Rockville Centre, NY and then in 1952, she graduated from Packard Junior College in Manhattan, NY. On November 1, 1953, Gertrude married Howard Arthur Lentz at St. Raymond's Church in East Rockaway, NY. They shared a union of 47 years until Howard's passing in 2001. Together they raised four children in Baldwin, NY and Clinton, NY. Although Gertrude spent most of her years as a housewife and homemaker, she was employed over time as a secretary at the American Fire Insurance Company, as a nurse's aide at South Nassau Community Hospital, and as a teller at Homestead Savings Bank. Gertrude will be remembered as someone who made all holidays a very special time for her husband and children. She especially loved Christmas music and began playing carols in October. She had many other hobbies as well, including swimming, baking, sewing, reading, crafting, and gardening. Gertrude loved the ocean and had fond memories of her childhood, which included spending summers at her family's home in Mattituck, Long Island. Gertrude is survived by her husband, Ed Wasco, Utica; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sharon Lentz, West Edmeston, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Luther, Danbury, CT, a daughter, Gert Lentz, and her partner, Heather Freeland, Oriskany Falls, NY; several grandchildren, including, Lauren Luther, Raymond Mundy, Charles and Nicole Mundy, Regan Mundy and partner, Mike Bolson, as well as several great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, John Geisler, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Howard, she is predeceased by a son, Howard Edward Lentz in 1979, an infant son, Lawrence Lentz in 1962, and by a brother, Charles Geisler. Mrs. Lentz's Funeral Service will be held Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton. Interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday evening, from 4 - 7 pm, prior to the service. Rest in Peace Mom. You are now reunited with the love of your life.
