Alice M. (Knight) Linder, 96, of Merrimac, MA, formerly of Whitesboro, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010 at Country Rehabilitation Center in Newburyport, MA. Alice was born in Utica, NY on June 24, 1913, the daughter of the late Anthony and Lena (Stannard) Knight. She grew up in Ithaca, NY and attended local schools. Alice graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Utica in 1938. She married the late Peter D. Linder on June 7, 1939. Alice worked as a nurse for many years before becoming a social worker for Oneida County Social Services. After moving from Whitesboro to Merrimac, MA in 1991 to be closer to her family, she became an avid Red Sox fan. Alice lived in Carriage Square Apts. and enjoyed tending her garden, visiting with friends and was a voracious reader. She attended Holy Redeemer Church in Merrimac. She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Roberts and husband, David, of Groveland; a son, Thomas Linder and wife, Mary Ellen, of Kingwood, TX; five grandchildren, Alyson Tedeschi and husband, Stephen, Evan Roberts, Christopher Linder and wife, Jennifer, Matthew Linder and Julie Linder; four great grandchildren, Ryan, Owen and Caroline Tedeschi and Reyn Linder; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Lena Srnka, William Knight, Caroline Huheey, Lawrence Knight and Anna Trotts. Mrs. Linder's funeral was held at Holy Family Parish St. Joseph Church, School Street, Amesbury, MA on Saturday, May 8th at 11 am, where her Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated. Services will continue with a graveside service and internment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro, NY on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pregnancy Care Center, 496 Main Street, Haverhill, MA 01830.
