Mr. Richard E. Major, 69 of Utica passed away on Wednesday March 24, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Richard was born in Utica on November 26, 1940 the son of Alexander and Irene (Allard) Major. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Richard was employed with Utica City Hall and for many years with Utica College retiring in 1990. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and was a big Boston Red Sox Fan. Richard was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Major was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Lionel and Ronald Major. He is survived by two sisters, Florence Forness of Utica and Alice Mehaffy of Utica; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Alexander (Marc) and Marilyn Major of New Hartford, Robert (Bob) Major of Rochester, Peter Major of PA and Carol Major of Richfield Springs; a niece and nephew and their families who loving cared for Richard: niece, Gail Schmoke of Taberg and her children and granddaughter, Jennifer Zajac, David Williams and Aurora Williams and nephew, James Mehaffy of Rome and his son, Caleb James Mehaffy; dear friends, Carol Williams of Floyd and Chic Burton of Utica and numerous additional nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mr. Major's funeral will be held on Monday March 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Utica.
