Ruth E. Mason, 100, of Humphrey Gardens, Utica, passed away at the Sitrin Rehabilitation Center on March 4, 2010, with her family by her side. Ruth was born in Black River on January 20, 1910, the daughter of Arthur and Eva (Drake) Van Patten. She was raised and educated in Black River. On January 18, 1930, in Tupper Lake, Ruth was married to John F. Mason, a blessed union of 58 years until his passing on April 2, 1987. Ruth was a long time member of the Stittville Methodist Church and a member of the North Utica Senior Center. Ruth is survived by a beloved son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Johann Mason, of N. Utica, and five grandchildren, Steven Mason and Shelly, Linda and husband, Steven Jones, Christine and husband, Anthony Schirripa, Ronald Mason, and Debra and husband, Frank Chandler. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren, Johann Mason and her fiance, Jerome Mathis, John and Michael Mason, Anthony and Matthew Schirripa, Paul Cozza, and Frank and Nicole Chandler, and two cherished great-great-grandchildren, Jayce and Jerome Mathis, Jr. She also leaves one brother, Frederick Van Patten; two sisters-in-law, Genevieve and Janice Van Patten; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant son, Alfred; two sisters, Edith Henderson and Hazel Berry; and two brothers, Alfred and Morris Van Patten. Mrs. Mason's funeral service will be held Sunday, March 7, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, with the Rev. Lori Pauley officiating. Burial will be at Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. Her calling hours will be from 2 until 4, prior to her service. Donations in Ruth's memory would be appreciated to the Stittville Methodist Church or the North Utica Senior Center.
