Henry "Hank" Okuszki, 86, of Deerfield passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009 in St. Luke's Hospital. Hank was born in Boonville on February 7, 1923 the son of Thomas and Mary Okuszki. He received his education at Remsen Central School. Hank was a Navy veteran serving in World War II, in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres aboard the USS North Carolina Battleship, putting her into commission in April 9, 1941 as a plankowner. In 1950 he served aboard the USS Tingey in the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. for 37 years retiring in 1986. On August 5, 1982 Hank married Charleen Dunbar in Delray Beach, FL. Hank was a life member of the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Dept., serving as a Fire Commissioner for 15 years and for a time as a Deputy Chief. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 24, Rome, the USS North Carolina Battleship Association as Master at Arms for many years and the Deerfield Fish & Game Club. Hank is survived by his wife, Charleen, his children, Michael Okuszki and wife Patsy, Philip Mariotti and wife, Tamara, Joanne Ambroze and husband Paul, Sue Ritzel and husband Ronald, grandchildren; Christy Calderara and husband Kevin, Amy Brisson, Richie Ritzel, Nicole Petkovsek and husband Joe, Erik Brisson, Kayla Ritzel, Ronald Ritzel, Jr., Nicholas, Meghan and Jenna Mariotti, great grandchildren, Sydney, Jordan, Christian and Hunter and several nieces and nephews. Hank was predeceased by 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Mr. Okuszki's funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 9:00 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 10:00 from St. Peter's Church North Utica. A spring burial with full military honors will be in the Old Glendale Cemetery, Glenfield, NY. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-8. In lieu of flowers those so wishing may make donations to the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Dept. in Hank's memory.
