Annabelle Frances Straka Street, 84, a resident of Westminster in Lake Ridge, VA, formerly of Toledo, OH, Utica, NY and Boonville, NY, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the home. Annabelle was born June 3, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Charles Philip and Jessie Elsie (Layman) Straka, the eldest of 4 children. Annabelle graduated from Woodward High School in Toledo in 1943 and went to work in a defense industry plant as a lathe operator before taking a job at the Lasalle & Koch Department Store in the advertising department. Annabelle met John Edwin Street of Norwich, CT during WWII when he was stationed briefly in Toledo. They corresponded for three years during the war and were married February 27, 1946, settling in Middlebury, VT. Mr. Street passed away in 1999. Annabelle continued a career as a commercial artist through subsequent moves to Utica, Boonville and back to Utica, where she worked as an artist for the Boston Store as well as doing freelance work. She was a frequent exhibitor in the Munson-Williams-Proctor summer sidewalk art show and sold many pieces. Annabelle was a past president of the Utica League of Women Voters and the PTA, and was active in the Utica Order of the Eastern Star, the Utica Mayor's Advisory Committee, the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International, Women's Aglow, and the Christian Women's Club. She was a founding member of the Upstate NY Conservative Party. Annabelle and John were founding members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in North Utica, and attended Grace Episcopal Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica. Annabelle spent the last three years at Westminster in Lakeridge, VA. Annabelle and John are survived by five children, Jacalyn Lee Street (& Robert) Hamaker, Williamsport, PA; Philip John Street, Watertown, NY; Margaret Louise Street (& Guido) Germano, Miami, FL; Elizabeth Ann Street (& Edward) Battles, Woodbridge, VA; and Daniel Benjamin Street, Woodbridge, VA; and two grandchildren, Benjamin Philip Street, Watertown, NY, and Adriana Louise Germano, Miami, FL. Mrs. Street's funeral will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 4 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Interment in Deerfield-Schuyler Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2 - 4 pm, prior to the funeral service.
