Mrs. Lucy A. (Ahrens) Schwartz, 100, formerly of Utica, NY and currently a resident of Rocky Hill, CT, died on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at the Rocky Hill Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Rocky Hill, CT. Born in Hamburg, Germany on August 3, 1909, Lucy was the daughter of August and Elsa (Lowe) Ahrens. When she was 17 years old, she migrated to the U.S. with her mother and two sisters to join their father who had settled in Utica prior to their arrival. On June 6, 1931 she married Herman Schwartz with whom she shared a union of 47 years, until his passing on December 4, 1978, during which time they raised their daughter and two sons. Lucy and Herman were active and singing members of the Utica Maennerchor since the mid 1920's. Lucy was a charter member of the Utica Maennerchor's Ladies Chorus where she served a term as president in the 1950's. She also belonged to the Utica Westside, the North Utica, and the South Utica Senior Centers which resulted in her proud and active participation as one of the Utica "Disco Dolls". Her family and all of her little ones' brought her great joy; she will be missed by all. Mrs. Schwartz is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Carl Schwartz and Wilda Luttermoser of Seattle, WA, and a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Joyce Schwartz of Rocky Hill, CT, and a son-in-law, Charles Agne of Edgewater, FL. She was predeceased by her daughter, Elsie Agne. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Fred and Corinne, Paul, Tom, and Ted Schwartz all of CA, Sue and Tom Brennan of FL, and Carl and Laura Agne of WA; and her 9 great-grandchildren. Her survivors also include great-nieces, Linda Maring of Yorkville and Laura Salie of NY Mills; a niece Carol Carlson of Rochester; nephews, Kenneth Guenther of Chevy Chase, MD and Ralph Guenther of Rochester. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Clara Zingars Schultz and Erna Guenther. A special Memorial Service and interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, Utica, NY.
