Evelyn Maier, 88, of Utica passed away at home on Thursday, November 5, 2009 with her loving family by her side. Evelyn was born in Utica on August 10, 1921 a daughter of Wilfred and Goldie (Jewett) Basiliere. In Utica on June 8, 1940 Evelyn married Eugene A. Maier, Sr., a loving union of 41 years until his passing away on October 16, 1981. Evelyn and Eugene owned and operated various businesses together in the Utica area including the North Utica Bakery, Siesta Motel, and the Hacienda Restaurant. Then later until her retirement in 1992 Evelyn was employed with the American Diabetes Association. Evelyn was a loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family. Throughout her life Evelyn enjoyed dancing, listening to music and playing cards but enjoyed this the most when doing it with her family. Evelyn is survived by a son; Eugene Maier, Jr. and companion Marisa Estrella, Schuyler, two daughters; Bonnie Taddonio and companion, David Roberts, NC and Marguerite Williams and husband Joseph Kamide, Utica, 7 grandchildren; Lisa Michaud and husband, Norman, Lance Maier, Christopher, Jason and Brian Taddonio, Luke Williams who was also her special caretaker, and Alexander Maier, a sister and brother-in-law; Joan and Andrew Kinsinger, Utica and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by a grandson, Eugene Maier III and a sister, Violette Basiliere Ramm. A memorial mass for Mrs. Maier will be announced at a later date. There are no calling hours. Those so wishing may make donations to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society in Evelyn's memory. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. William Ryan, Minnie Jackson from the VNA and Navaz Dhabar of Hospice for all the care and compassion they have shown to Evelyn.
