Obituary of Virginia S. Tallman

Mrs. Virginia S. Tallman, 97, a resident of the Masonic Care Community in Utica, formerly of Jason St., Utica, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.
Virginia was born in Utica on September 3, 1919 the daughter of Joseph and Delia (Morey) Schmalz. She was raised in Utica, attended St. Joseph's grade school, Utica Free Academy and the Excelsior School of Business. On June 23, 1941, Virginia married John F. Tallman at St. Joseph's Church in Utica, a devoted union of 43 years until John's death on October 26, 1984. At one time, she was employed with Durr Packing Company in Utica and later with Mohawk Valley Oil until her retirement in 1983. Virginia was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Utica and a member and past president of the St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Knights of St. John's Ladies Auxiliary and the L.C.B.A.
Mrs. Tallman is survived by a daughter, Paula T. Swider of Utica; son and daughter-in-law, Jon J. and Joan Tallman of Utica; three grandchildren, Erin Megan Swider and her fiancée, Joel Peabody of Austin, TX, Shannon Bethany Hansford and her husband Robert of Rochester, NY and Michael John Tallman and his wife Melissa of Yorkville; three great grandchildren, Linus Robert Hansford of Rochester and Andrew Michael Tallman and Carter Jacob Tallman both of Yorkville as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, William Swider.
Mrs. Tallman's funeral will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Utica where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Her Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday morning from 9:30-11:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica prior to the funeral Mass. Mrs. Tallman's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Masonic Care Community Queens Household and activities and wellness leaders as well as the staff at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the loving care you provided to Virginia. Also a special thank you to Tony Esper for bringing Holy Communion to Virginia weekly and Deacon Adolph Uryniak and his wife Sue for the many years of friendship shared with Virginia and her family.
