Helen T. Roback, 80, of the Martin Luther Home, Clinton passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the home. Helen was born in Utica on February 12, 1929 a daughter of John and Sophie (Kopera) Stefanski. At Holy Trinity Church, Utica on June 10, 1950 Helen married Edward R. Roback a blessed union of 59 years. For 23 years until her retirement she was employed with F.W. Woolworth's Department Store. Helen was a member of St. Joseph's-St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Helen always enjoyed playing cards and polka dancing especially at the Mayfair with her good friend Sadie Zastawny. Helen was also known as the "Worlds Best Pierogi Maker" to her family and friends. Helen is survived by her husband, Edward, three daughters and a son-in-law; Linda Roback, Utica, Kathy Roback, Utica and Carol and Robert Synakowski, Holland Patent, two sons and daughters-in-law; Richard and Cira Roback, TX and Glenn and Wendy Roback, NY Mills, eight grandchildren; Josh Synakowski and wife Kristen, Melissa Synakowski, Brian Roback and wife Maggie, Brendon Roback, Benjamin Roback, James Roback, Jennifer Roback and Jaden Roback, two great grandchildren; Julian Roback and Reagan Synakowski, a brother and sister-in-law; Edward and Esther Stefanski, Clinton, a sister-in-law; Eileen Stefanski, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was predeceased by her oldest sister Mary Riddell on September 30, 2009, two sisters and brothers-in-law; Alice and Ernest LaManque and Dolores and Donald Ellis, two brothers and a sister-in-law; John Stefanski and Walter and Barbara Stefanski and a godchild Gail Marie Podkowka. Mrs. Roback's funeral will be held on Thursday morning October 22, 2009 at 10:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitestown. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association in Helen's memory. The family would like to thank the staff of the Applewood Wing of the Martin Luther Home for all the loving care they gave to Helen.
