Michael J. Usyk, 87, of Marcy, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville. Michael was born in Schuyler on August 14, 1922, the son of Walter and Sophie (Zak) Usyk. He was raised and educated in Schuyler. On January 21, 1950, Michael married Mary T. Bialas. Mrs. Usyk passed away in January of this year. Michael was a mason, working for his brother, Jerry Usyk. "Mike the Mason" was involved in building many of the homes in the Marcy area. After his retirement, Michael developed an interest in flower gardening. He was a member of both the Marcy and Floyd Senior Citizens and was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church in North Utica. Michael is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Dave Constable, Holland Patent, Michele and Frank Reile, Russia, Sue and Dan Derdzinski, Newport; seven grandchildren, Renee, Frank (and his wife, Heidi), Eric, Tony, Adam, Cheri, and Carly; a great grandson, Owen; a brother and five sisters-in-law, Henry and Patricia Usyk, Schuyler, Mrs. Jerry (Lois) Usyk, Boonville, Mrs. Joseph (Dolores) Usyk, Utica, Mrs. Andrew (Dolores) Usyk, Clinton, and Mrs. Stanley (Eva) Usyk, Schuyler. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his wife, Michael is predeceased by a sister and six brothers, Betty Sroka, Jerry, Joe, Andrew, Stan, Albert, and Frank Usyk. Mr. Usyk's funeral will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 9:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 4 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to the Maynard Fire Department in Michael's memory. Mr. Usyk's family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Sunset Nursing Home, for the care and compassion shown to both Michael and his family during his stay. Also, a special thank you to Jim Evans, for his care, his help, and his friendship, especially during difficult times.
