Gerald W. Pietsch, Sr., 86, of Deerfield passed away on Saturday September 12, 2009 at the St. Luke's Home. Gerald was born in Utica on November 1, 1922 the son of Carl and Olive (Green) Pietsch. He received his education in local schools and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Gerald served in the Army during World War II. At Calvary Episcopal Church, Utica in 1947 he married Dawn Foster. For 34 years until his retirement in 1985 Gerald was employed with the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in Utica. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Utica and a member of the Masons for 65 years. Gerald is survived by his wife, Dawn, a son and daughter-in-law; Gerald and Heidemarie Pietsch, Jr. of Utica, two daughters; Linda Cheesman of New Orleans, LA and Cathy Pietsch-House of Salt Lake City, UT, and three grandchildren; Stephan Pietsch and wife Cynthia of Utica, Sarah Pietsch of Buffalo and Susie Pietsch of New York City. Gerald was predeceased by his son Bruce Pietsch on October 8, 2008, a brother, C. Lester Pietsch and a sister, Charlotte Esch. Mr. Pietsch's funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon September 15, 2009 at 4:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 2-4. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department in Gerald's memory.
