Verne (Roger) Leaf, 76 passed away Wednesday September 2, 2009 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Roger was born in Utica, New York on November 18, 1932 the son of the late Gladys (Schafer) Leaf Folts and Oscar Leaf. He attended Utica Schools. In 1950 he enlisted In the US Army serving in Berlin Germany until his honorable discharge in 1953. In 1954 He married Lois Sumner in Dryer Methodist Church in Utica. They resided in Utica until 1966 when they moved to Yorkville New York. He was employed at Bendix-Allied Lucas Aviation for 33 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a life member and past Commander of VFW post 7393 and was a member of American Legion Post 1113. He was an avid golfer and a member of the VFW golf league. Mr. Leaf is survived by his devoted wife Lois; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Bob Cady of Yorkville, Barbara and David Gadway of Schuyler and Linda Leaf of Utica; His grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Donnie Gardner, Richard Cady, Charles Lundgren, Belinda Jones and Mary Ann Constantine. His great grandchildren, Benjamin, Jesse, and Jacob Shallert-Jones and Betty Ann Gardner; A favorite sister-in-law, Kathy Leaf and her children. He was predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Constantine, his granddaughter, Beth Ann Cady; his brothers, Donald E. Leaf and Victor R. Leaf and stepfather, William Folts. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St. Utica on Friday September 4, 2009 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. VFW post 7393 will conduct ritual at 6:30 p.m. In keeping with Roger's wishes there is no funeral service. The family wishes to thank the staff of the 6th floor at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare for their compassion shown to Roger during his illness, especially Erin, Virg, and John. Thanks goes out to Dr. S. Razia, with special thanks to Dr. Amy Gorczynski for her care to Roger and his family. The family requests no floral offerings but donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Roger's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
