Obituary of Mary Lou Holbrook

Mary Lou (Greiner) Holbrook, 63, of Whitesboro passed away at home Monday, August 31, 2009 with her loving family by her side. Mary Lou was born in Utica on February 4, 1946 a daughter of the late Francis and Mildred (Ellis) Greiner. She was a graduate of Whitesboro High School. At St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro on September 21, 1968 Mary Lou married Bill Holbrook a wonderful union of 41 years. Mary Lou started her working career with United Parcel Service then later was employed with Bendix Corporation until its closing. Mary Lou then was employed with the Whitesboro School District as a substitute library clerk until her illness in November 2008. This was a very special opportunity since she was able to work with a wonderful library staff, who became close friends. She thoroughly enjoyed the children she worked with thru the years. Mary Lou was a dedicated and loving wife and mother who always put her family first. She enjoyed reading, crafts and the trips she and her sisters and nieces enjoyed each year and she especially loved the family trips to Walt Disney World. During her 10 months of illness Mary Lou never once produced a complaint, rather was concerned for those caring for her. Mary Lou is survived by her beloved husband, Bill, her two sons and daughter-in-law; Scott and Michelle Holbrook of New Hartford and Brian Holbrook of Clinton, her step grandson; Brandon Pudney of New Hartford, her sister and brother-in-law; Shirley and Charles (Buzzy) Donohue of Whitesboro, her brother and sister-in-law; Edward and Roxy Greiner of Lake Bonaparte, NY, in-laws; Marylou Werthman of Fairport, NY and Sue and Martin Schmitzer of Olmstead Township, OH, and many nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law; Gail and Jim Weaver, her brother; Robert Greiner and brother-in-law; William Werthman. Mrs. Holbrook's funeral will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 9:30 from St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. There are no calling hours. Those so wishing may make donations to the American Cancer Society or Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. in Mary Lou's memory. Mary Lou's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Deacon Tony Paparella for his spiritual guidance and strength, as well as his compassion and love and to Michelle and Shirley for their love and devoted home care.
