Obituary of Harold L. Friot

Harold L. Friot, 81, of Marcy, NY, passed away at St. Luke's Healthcare Center on July 15, 2009, after a long illness. Harold was born in Rensselaer Falls, NY, September 10, 1927, the son of Frank and Edna Friot. He was raised and educated in Rensselaer Falls. Harold joined the United States Army and was a veteran, having served from 1945 to 1946. In Madrid, NY, on August 31, 1947, he was married to I. Ilene Race. They moved to the Marcy area where he became employed with the Marcy State Hospital with 38 years of service, retiring in 1983 as a safety officer. Harold was a member of the Marcy Community Church and an active member of the Maynard Fire Dept. with 45 years of service. He was also a member of the Whitestown Vets. Harold will be remembered for his enjoyment and volunteering his services for local organizations doing chicken barbecues. For 27 years, his winter months were enjoyed in Lakeland, FL, with his wife and his visiting family. Harold is survived by his wife, Ilene. He was the loving father of Marie, David and Steven. He is also survived by their spouses, Robert Flander, of Marcy, Nancy Friot, of Holland Patent, and Sharon Friot, of Marcy. He leaves eight cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mabel Friot, of Rensselaer Falls; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Glenn, Roy and Walter Friot. Mr. Friot's funeral will be held Friday, July 17, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica, with the Rev. Paul Credle officiating. His burial will take place in Carr Cemetery, Marcy. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening (today) from 4-7. A special thank you to our many neighbors, who he considered family, and to Dr. Dhabhar and his staff for all of their care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold's memory would be appreciated to the Marcy Community Church.
