Obituary of Vivian Bouck

Vivian Brown Bouck, 91, of Schuyler passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Vivian was born in Westmoreland, NY on October 5, 1925, a daughter of Byron and Hazel (Robson) Brown. She graduated from Oneida Castle Elementary School then later from Oneida High School in 1943. In 1947 Vivian received a B.S. Degree in Library Science from SUNY at Geneseo. Her first teaching position was third grade in Johnstown, NY and later second grade in Clinton, NY. In 1952, at the Oneida Baptist Church, Vivian married Paul A. Bouck. In 1953, when Paul was transferred to Oswego, Vivian became a kindergarten teacher in Mexico, NY. While in Oswego, Vivian was able to pursue her education and received her M.S. degree from SUNY Oswego in 1958. It was there, that their only son was born in 1956. When Paul was transferred back to the local area, Vivian became a substitute teacher in Ilion and then a kindergarten teacher at Marcy Elementary where she taught for 19 years, retiring on July 1, 1981. While serving as historian of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer Rd, she was able to have the church placed on the National Register of Historic Places. At one time, she was a volunteer at Broadacres Extended Care, Meals on Wheels and the geneology room of the Utica Public Library. She was a member of Mohawk Reformed Church, AARP, NYS Teachers, Whitesboro Retired Teachers Association and Schuyler Senior Citizens. In 1962, the family bought a farm in Schuyler and raised purebred Aberdeen Angus cattle until Paul's passing on April 4, 1986. Vivian is survived by her son, Jeffrey R. Bouck, of Schuyler, in-laws, David and Irene Bouck, of Schuyler and Donald and Betty Bouck, of Ilion. Also surviving are Dale and Lorraine (a very special niece) Kessler, of Rome, William and Sharon Thum, of Indiana, all of her loving nieces, nephews and their children, including, Kelly, Kim, Richard, Jana, Chris, Mike, Erin, Matthew, Kathy, Allison and Frank. and many dear friends, especially, Joyce, Sandy, Jeannie and their families. Mrs. Bouck's funeral service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. A spring burial will take place at Westmoreland Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4 - 7. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Local Heart Association, Mohawk Reformed Church, the Herkimer County Humane Society or Humane Society of your choice.
