Obituary of Marsette A. Vona

Dr. Marsette A. Vona, II, 66, of Fountain St., Clinton, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 19, 2009. Marty was born August 15, 1942, in Utica, NY, the son of Marsette A. and Josephine (Peters) Vona. He was raised and educated in Clinton schools and was a graduate of the 1960 class. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Science from Hamilton College in 1964. He furthered his education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his Doctorate in Dentistry in 1969. In 1969, he was married to Concetta Maggio. On July 30, 1995, in Clinton, Marty was married to Maria Elena Santos. Marsette ran his dental office in Clinton, NY, from 1971 until his passing. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the Skenandoa Club of Clinton, where he loved spending his leisure time on the golf course. He was of the Catholic faith. Marty was a man who valued his family and friends first. He held an ongoing love and respect for education and sports. He shared many happy memories of his vacations with his family. Marsette is survived by his wife, Maria Elena; one daughter, Josephine A. Vona, of Burlington, VT; a son, Marsette A. Vona, III, of Somerville, MA; two stepdaughters, Larissa Varges, of Brooklyn, NY, and Tatiana Varges, of Somerville, MA; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Beverly Alteri, of Clinton, Beatrice and Dr. John Romano, of Utica, Marlene and John DeIorio, of Whitesboro, and Pamela Vona, of Clinton. He also leaves a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, both in Brazil, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; and one brother-in-law, Fernando (Fred) Alteri. Dr. Vona's funeral will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited. His burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 E. Park Row, Clinton, will be held Friday evening, May 22, from 5-8. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marty's memory would be appreciated to the American Heart Association or a scholarship for Young Scholars, LPP, to be established in his memory.
