Mrs. Elizabeth L. Dougherty, 80 of N. Utica passed away on Friday April 17, 2009 at the St. Luke's Home in New Hartford. Elizabeth was born in Utica on May 4, 1928 the daughter of John H. and Elizabeth (Laub) Hughes and received her education in Utica Schools. On August 11, 1944 Elizabeth married Walter E. Dougherty at St. Joseph Church in Utica a devoted union of 51 years until Walter's death in 1995. For 27 years, she was employed with Carl Cleaners, later with Berger's Cleaners and until her retirement with Dapper Dan Laundry. Elizabeth was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Mrs. Dougherty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Eugene Topolski of West Point, MS; son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Dougherty of Deerfield, NY; three grandchildren, Patricia Bonville of Mattydale, NY, Kristen Swenczkowski and her husband Robert of NY Mills, NY and John R. Dougherty, Jr. of Lairdsville, NY; four great grandchildren, Michael Wheeler, Dylan Schultz, Matthew Swenczkowski and Steven Swenczkowski and a niece, Terry Bellinger of Marcy, NY. She was predeceased by a sister, Edna Bolanowski. Mrs. Dougherty's funeral will be held on Saturday May 2, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yorkville at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. prior to the service.
