Robert W. Volz, 91, a resident of the Martin Luther Home, Clinton, formerly of South Side Road, Frankfort, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the nursing home. Robert was born in Utica on December 12, 1917, the son of Franz Josef and Mabel (Young) Volz. He was raised and educated locally. In 1939, Robert married Mariana King in Utica. Mrs. Volz passed away in 2000. Robert was employed by New York Central Railroad, by Schwender's Appliances, by Remington Arms, and last by Doyle Hardware. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. Robert is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Eileen and Gordon Fernalld, New Hartford, Donna and Gary Manzer, Whitesboro; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Gerald and Barbara Volz, Wilmington, NC, Robert D. Volz, Whitesboro, Kenneth and Anita Volz, Utica, Alan Volz, Sauquoit. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Robert is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Frances Volz. He is also predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Kathleen Volz, his parents-in-law, Ernest and Flossie King, his brothers-in-law, Floyd King, Ernest King, and Raymond Ireland; and his sister-in-law, Thelma Ireland. Mr. Volz's funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, N. Utica with Pastor Brian McCaffrey presiding. Interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9 - 10 am prior to the funeral service. Those wishing may donate to The Lutheran Homes, 110 Utica Street, Clinton, NY 13323.
