Mrs. Marion J. Chwalek, 84 of New Hartford passed away on Monday January 26, 2009 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with her loving family by her side. Marion was born in Utica on December 6, 1924 the daughter of William and Catherine (Haitz) Hancock. She was raised locally, attended St. Joseph grade school and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On May 12, 1962, Marion married Arthur E. Chwalek at St. Joseph Church in Utica. Marion was employed with Neisner's department store, worked in the mills during WW II and later with Lollipop Nursery School. Her main "job" and the one she cherished most was being and mother and home maker. She enjoyed doing volunteer work with the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Utica. Marion enjoyed cooking for her family and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Chwalek is survived by her beloved children; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Gail and Peter Kaufman of Long Island, Nancy and John Porter of Rome, Candace Miller Tuzzolino of Sauquoit and Lisa and Rob LaPolt of Whitesboro; two sons And daughters-in-law, Frank and Jane Woods of Atlanta, GA and Alan and Penny Woods of Atlanta, GA; 12 cherished grandchildren Ronnie Woods, Jr. and his wife Tamara, Savina Hooper and her husband David, John Michael Porter, Bryan Hunt and his wife Susan, Frank Woods, Jr. and his wife Lisa, Dawn Janicke, Christopher Robert Miller, Jolene Katie Miller, Nicolas Woods, Karli Woods, Shane LaPolt and Shawn LaPolt; 2 sisters-in-law, Frances Hancock and Irene Hammill and her husband John; a son-in-law, Carl Tuzzolino; dear friends, Margaret and Eddie Kozak and Irene Murawski and numerous great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur, son, Ronnie Woods and son-in-law, Robert H. Miller and brother, William Hancock. Mrs. Chwalek's funeral will be held on Friday January 30, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 11:00 at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church where her mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Those so wishing may consider a donation to the Abraham House 1203 Kemble St., Utica NY 13501 in Marion's memory. Mrs. Chwalek's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Amy Gorczynski, Katrina, Brian, Mona, Raina and Tracy for the wonderful care and compassion you gave to Marion.
