Obituary of Christine M. Rovou

Please share a memory of Christine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Christine M. Rovou, 59, of Whitesboro, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a brief illness. She was surrounded and comforted by her family and several friends who loved her very much. Christine was born in Utica on January 18, 1950, the daughter of Eli Charles, Jr. and Gladys P. (Caras) Philo. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Utica Free Academy in 1968. Christine was employed at Kinney Drugs in Whitesboro, where she enjoyed personal relationships with many of her customers, often surprising them with small gifts or bringing them homemade food. She attended St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church in Utica. Christine always put her family and friends first and was happiest making other people happy. She wouldn't think twice about buying a gift for a friend who simply mentioned liking something from a store. She doted on her sons and made sure everyone else was taken care of before even thinking of doing something for herself. She had a very special relationship with her mother, whom she and her sons affectionately called "Beba." Christine also dearly loved her cat, Hunter, who was almost like a third child to her. Even during her illness, she wanted him to be comfortable, making sure her family was giving him fresh water and treats twice a day. Christine liked to cook and try out new recipes. She also loved shopping with her friends and decorating her house with furniture, baskets and other items from craft stores and festivals. Christine is survived by her two sons, Jason Rovou, Brooklyn, NY, Andrew Rovou, Utica; her mother, Gladys Philo, Utica; her brother, Michael Philo, Clark Mills; her nephew Ryan Philo and niece Ashley Philo; as well as by many dear friends. The family would especially like to thank Sue Randall for her longstanding friendship with Christine and for her assistance and support through Christine's illness; and Nancy Schindler, with whom Christine shared many laughs over the years. Christine is predeceased by her father, Charles Philo, her aunt, Helen DeLia and her ex-husband, Theodore Rovou. Ms. Rovou's funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 6:00pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yorkville will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 3 - 6 pm prior to the service. Those wishing may donate to Faxton - St. Luke's Regional Cancer Center in Christine's memory. Christine's sons would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Elizabeth Medical Center's 3B oncology wing for their care and kindness during this difficult time.
