Raymond F. Schreck, UPD (Ret), 88, a resident of the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford, formerly of Richmond Rd., N. Utica, passed away at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare on October 22, 2008. He was born April 19, 1920, in Utica NY, son of the late Charles E. and Wilimena Goppert Schreck. He was raised and educated in Utica. On August 10, 1947, at Holy Trinity Church, he married the former Stephanie Dunajewski. She passed away on March 4, 2000. Raymond was a WW II veteran, serving in the US Army, 2nd Field Artillery - 27th Division. Ray was a police officer with the Utica Police Department, until his retirement. He was a member of the Association of Professional Police and Fire Retirees of Upstate New York; a member of the Knights of Columbus, William E. Burke Council # 189; a life member of VFW Post 6429-Schuyler; a member of the American Legion Post 229; and a long time member of the North Utica Senior Center. Ray was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Ray was a life long and enthusiastic New York Yankees fan! He was a friendly and good natured man who enjoyed people. Raymond is survived by his four children and spouses, Barbara and Bob Jakubowski, N. Utica, Shirley and Garry Buckley, Williamsburg, VA, Jim and Mary Ann Schreck, Fulton, NY, and Audrey and Alban Uryniak, Whitesboro. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Kelly Buckley, Jennifer Stafford, Michele Uryniak, Michael Uryniak and Christopher Schreck; and one great-grandchild, Sabriel Stafford. Ray leaves one brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Florence Schreck, Whitesboro; one brother-in-law, Edward Luley, New Hartford; and two sisters-in-law, Jane Lis, AZ, and Helen Zawislan, New Hartford; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; loving wife, Stephanie; and siblings, Charles, Ernest and Edward Schreck, Florence Bates, Catherine Luley and Marie Schreck. Funeral arrangements are in care of Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Calling hours are Sunday, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:15 AM, from the funeral home, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church, N. Utica, at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at St. Peter's Cemetery, N. Utica. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jerry Sloan and staff for years of excellent care and the staff of both the Presbyterian Home and Presbyterian Residential Community for their wonderful attention and kindness to Ray. Memorials in memory of Raymond may be made to the American Lung Association or the Diabetes Association. The Knights of Columbus Utica Council 189 will meet at the funeral home at 5:30 PM for services.
