Joseph "Joe Roy" Francis Raiano, 96, a resident of the Loretto Home, Utica, formerly of Marcy, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, New Hartford. Joe was born October 14, 1911 in Utica, the son of Vincenzo J. and Saveria Raiano. He was raised and educated locally. In November of 1937, Joe married Nellie Strilka. Nellie passed away in 1964. On April 10, 1965, Joe married Florence Jean Louis. He worked for Doe Skin Paper Co. in New Hartford, retiring after 31 years and later went to work as a security guard at the Masonic Home. Joe was a member of the Whitestown American Legion Post # 1113, and a former member of the Moose Lodge in Marcy. He belonged to St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Joe is survived by his wife, Florence Raiano, Utica; two daughters, Joan Desjardins, Utica, Dolores Centolella, Utica; a son, Joseph Raiano, Utica; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Michelle, Jill, Donna, Joseph, Raymond, and Kristen, as well as six great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Irene Montana, Utica, and one brother, George Raiano, Utica. He is predeceased by one brother, John Raiano, and by a son-in-law, Daniel Desjardins. Mr. Raiano's funeral will be held Friday, October 17, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening, from 4 - 7 pm.
