Michael F. Metzger, 51, of New Hartford passed away unexpectedly on Monday October 6, 2008. Michael was born in Utica on February 24, 1957 a son of the late Jack and Eleanor (Jennings) Metzger. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and Mohawk Valley Community College. On April 8, 1988 at St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer he married Alesia Tangorra. For the past 20 years Michael has been employed as a corrections officer with Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Michael was avid golfer and gardener and spent countless hours enjoying these hobbies, but the things that meant the most to Michael were his wife and children. He especially cherished the special times he spent with them vacationing in Maine. Michael is survived by his beloved wife Alesia, his two cherished children; Stephanie Metzger and Michael J. Metzger both at home, three sisters and a brother-in-law; Jeanne Reilly, Utica, Sheila and Jack Close, Palmyra, NY ,and Judy Goppert, Utica, two brothers and sisters-in-law; Jack Metzger and wife Mary Muncel, Cambridge, NY and Richard and Teresa Metzger, Bainbridge, NY, his mother-in-law; Anita Martin, Herkimer, in-laws; Alexis Tangorra and husband, Bugsy Martin, New Hartford, Frank and Nancy Tangorra, Herkimer and Toni and Eric Rostohar, Ilion, and his closest friends and golf buddies; Leonard Hapanowicz, John Bannigan and Kevin Gleason. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Michael's funeral will be held on Wednesday October 8, 2008 at 11:00 from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. There are no calling hours. Those so wishing may make donations to a scholarship fund that is being set up for Michael's children.
