Mr. Eugene (Gene) L. Kilpeck, 78 of Deerfield passed away on Wednesday August 20, 2008 at his home with his loving family by his side. Gene was born in Colchester, VT on January 23, 1930 the son of Lawrence and Irene (Robitaille) Kilpeck, and received his education at Saranac Lake High School. Gene honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. On May 2, 1952 Gene married Theresa J. Oehler in Lake Clear Junction, NY a devoted union of 47 years until Theresa's death in 1999. For many years he was employed with General Electric Company in Utica retiring in 1988. Gene was an active member of Knights of Columbus Utica Council 189, its 4th degree assembly and color corps. He was also a member of American Legion post 229, N. Utica, the Nocturnal Adoration Society and a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, most notably golf. Gene was a patient and kind man who had the ability to see the good in all people and most situations. A true family man, Gene's deep love and commitment to his family and especially his grandchildren was the foundation of his life. Mr. Kilpeck will be sadly missed by his six children and their spouses, Michael and Mary Kilpeck of Whitesboro, Patrick and Patricia Kilpeck of Richmondville, NY, Kevin and Joan Kilpeck of Liverpool, Anne Marie Kilpeck of Liverpool, Colleen Semo of Deerfield and Timothy and Cady Kilpeck of Wilton NY; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Nancy Kilpeck of MN and Larry and Judy Kilpeck of OH; 16 cherished grandchildren and 1 beloved great granddaughter. Mr. Kilpeck's funeral will be held on Saturday August 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. John's in the Woods Cemetery in Lake Clear Junction, NY. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford NY 13413 or the Regional Cancer Center at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, 1676 Sunset Ave Utica, NY 13502 in Gene's memory. Mr. Kilpeck's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff's of the 6th floor at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc and the Regional Cancer Center at Faxton-St. Luke's for the wonderful care and compassion you provided to Gene. You kindness will never be forgotten.
