Mrs. Sylvia Baird Davis, 73 of S. Utica passed away on Saturday September 29, 2007 at her home after a brief illness with her loving family by her side. Sylvia was born on January 14, 1934 in Liverpool, England. In October 1954, Sylvia married Walter Frederick Davis, Jr. in Liverpool, England a union of 34 years until Walter's death in 1988. A one time she was employed with Durr Packing, later with Hemstrough's Bakery and most recently with the Utica City School District retiring in June of 2004. Sylvia was a member of the Transatlantic Brides Association, City of Utica Planning Board and was and active Republican committee woman. She enjoyed walking, was an avid ballroom dancer and enjoyed traveling the world over. She was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Davis is survived by two sons, Brian Davis, New Hartford and Michael Davis, Utica and his "lady friend", Michele Besig, Rome; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Davis, Long Island; seven cherished grandchildren, Alexandria, Caroline, Harrison, Jacqueline, Collin, Connor and Jennifer and two sisters, Evelyn Aldridge and Joan Anderson both of England; Also surviving are Jasmine Davis of New Hartford and dear friends, Janet Hertline, Utica, Jean Potter, Fl, Frieda Wood, SC, Clinton Graybael, MD, Leslie and Dave Fairhurst, Nancy, Gladys and Gloria. She was predeceased by a son, John Davis in 2005. Mrs. Davis' memorial service will be held on Tuesday October 2, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday 4:00-7:00 prior to the service. Those so wishing may consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. in Sylvia's memory. Mrs. Davis' family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Janet Hertline for the many years of loving and devoted friendship you shared with our mom. Also a special thanks to the staff of Hospice Care especially Pat and Mary and the staff of St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, 2 south, especially Emily, Kim and Mandy for the compassionate care you provided in caring for Sylvia.
