Mr. Robert A. Oderkirk, (USN, ret), 77 of N. Utica and Florida passed away on Monday April 21, 2008 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, FL. Robert was born in Utica on January 3, 1931 the son of Lansing and Freda (Enders) Oderkirk. He was raised locally and earned his bachelors degree from Alfred State University. Robert proudly served in the US Navy retiring as Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of honorable service. His service included the Korean War and deployment aboard the USS Bennington. At one time, he was married to Cynthia Rucker Oderkirk. Robert was employed with Bendix Corp., later in the radio received division of General Electric Company and for many years until his retirement as a budget analyst with The US Navy Under Water Sea Systems. He served as a N. Utica Councilman in the 1970's, was a trustee at St. Mark's Church, N. Utica, a parishioner and Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church, Utica, member of American legion Post 229, N. Utica, and a 33rd degree Grand Master of the Masons. He established Boy Scout troop 115, served as scout master for many years and since the 1930's was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan. Mr. Oderkirk is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Richard Plato, Rochester; three sons and one daughter-in-law, David Oderkirk, N. Utica, Robert and Donna Oderkirk, N. Utica, Timothy Oderkirk, N. Utica and Michael Williams, who was like a son to Robert, N. Utica; Roberts companion, Rita Allen, FL and her children, Dawn Allen, Alicia Allen and Debi and Keith Landman; eight grandchildren, Kiara, Philip, Joshua, Matthew, Jessica, Kevin, Eric and Tim; one great grand daughter, Maya and he was anxiously awaiting the birth of his newest great grandson, "Phileepo Popa Luguski Jr." Also surviving are one cousin, Richard Enders and his wife Ellen, Clinton, Cynthia Oderkirk, N. Utica, dear friends, Sam Ventura and his companion Toni, Dick Ruskey, Robert and Esther Coyle and many nieces, nephews and his feline companion, Bobo. He was predeceased by one sister, Ann Rollo and two brothers, Corles and Eugene Oderkirk. Mr. Oderkirk's funeral will be held on Monday April 28, 2008 at 12:15 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 1:00 at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church where his Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
