Robert A. Montesano of Utica, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born in Utica on February 3, 1925, the son of Anthony J. and Elsie Clowminzer Montesano. Educated in local schools, he served in the infantry during World War II. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Hughes on October 27, 1946. Robert retired from Utica Cutlery Company as Corporate Secretary in 1989, but shortly thereafter returned to part-time work at the company, which he continued to enjoy until recently. He also worked in the radio and publishing media. Robert was a lifetime member of the Moravian Church of the Good Shepherd, a member of the Kiwanis Club of North Utica and of the Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and three children: Robert E. and his wife, Lynn; Barbara L. and her husband, Timothy Jaggers; and Mark A. and his wife, Shelley, four grandchildren: Michelle L., Anthony J. and Max Montesano, and Sulyana Jaggers; a great-granddaughter, Gianna Lynne Montesano; a sister and her husband, Betty Lou and John Kessler; an aunt, Josephine Paladino; an uncle, Rocco A. Montesano; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paula Hart officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. to be used toward establishing a Robert A. Montesano Memorial Fund.
