Mr. Robert (Whitey) C. Kennerknecht, 89 a resident of the Martin Luther Home, Clinton, formerly of Utica passed away on Sunday February 17, 2008 at the nursing home with his loving family by his side. Robert was born in Utica on May 31, 1918 the son of John M. and Florence M. (Davis) Kennerknecht. He was raised locally and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School. Robert honorably served in the US Army with the 305th Ordinance Maintenance Company during WW II. On July 1, 1942, Robert married Isabella M. Traeger in St. Agnes Church in Utica. He was employed with Savage Arms, Utica Drop Forge and for many years as a carpenter/lather with various construction companies in the Utica area. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 368 in Utica, American Legion Post 1113 Whitesboro, and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Church, NY Mills. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Kennerknecht is survived by his beloved wife, Isabella, Utica; one daughter, Marie Kennerknecht, Utica; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Kennerknecht, Old Forge; a grand daughter and her husband, Rachael and Melbourne Sann Rome; two great grandchildren, Savanna Sann and Melby Sann and one sister, Bertha Lawrence, FL. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Eleanor Kennerknecht and one brother, John F. Kennerknecht. Mr. Kennerknecht's funeral will be held on Wednesday February 20, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 10:00 at Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Church where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday (today) 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00. Those so wishing may consider a donation to the Dialysis Unit at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in Utica. Mr. Kennerknecht's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Staff of the Dialysis Unit at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare and the staff of Willow Way at the Martin Luther Home for the compassionate care given to Robert.
