Obituary of Richard Dilworth

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The angels came for Richard (Dick) Dilworth on June 15. Dick was born in Utica on March 29, 1932 and enjoyed his life fully at his residence in North Utica. He graduated from UFA in 1951 and married his high school sweetheart Deborah Gates with whom he treasured 51 years of marriage before her death in 2003. In addition to Deborah, Dick is joining his parents Sylvester and Virginia, his daughter Patricia, and his walking partner and beloved dog Annie in heaven. Dick and Jane Demorest Dilworth celebrated their third year of marriage last week; Jane, her children, and grandchildren will miss his laughter and his fatherly advice. Also left behind are Dick and Deborah's three children: Rick Dilworth of Cherry Valley, California, Susan Jessica Dilworth of Pearce, Arizona, and Marianne Dilworth of Boxborough, Massachusetts. His sole grandchild Jenny Lynn Dilworth resides in Fontana, California. Dick's children received the gift of his last father's day together with him and a day of stories and pranks prior to his death. Dick was a Utica firefighter for 22 years and was owner of Dilworth Floor Service. Dick was a founding member and secretary-treasurer for 30 years of the Association of Professional Police and Fire Retirees of Upstate New York as well as the United Police and Fire Retirees Association of New York. He was actively involved in advocating for the association and its members both locally and in Albany. He also managed the Mohawk Valley Workshop for several years, a program that connects people with disabilities and employment opportunities. Dick had many interests and lived an active life. He worked hard, played hard, and gave selflessly to his family, friends, and community throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and the secretary of the senior men's league at the Eagles Club. He was an usher at St Peter's Church and volunteered for fundraisers and picnics as a previous member of St Joseph and St Patrick Church. His friends will remember him as the guy who could get anything done. Dick's youngest daughter has multiple sclerosis and in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in his name. Mr. Dilworth's funeral will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Whitestown. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Arrangements are by the Heintz Funeral Service Inc.
