Margaret Burns Howell, 93, of New Hartford passed away Wednesday March 21, 2007. Margaret was born in Bridgewater, NY on May 27, 1913 a daughter of Francis and Ellen (Farrell) Burns. Margaret was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy and the Utica School of Commerce. At St. Patrick's Church, Utica, on December 26, 1939 she married Ellis C. Howell. Mr. Howell passed away on November 13, 1998. Prior to having her children Margaret was employed as a legal secretary and later was employed with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, New Hartford. Margaret will be missed for her Irish humor and her excellent cooking. She was a steadfast friend to many and above all else loved and cherished her grandchildren. Margaret is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Richard Ballard, Camillus, NY, Judith and Richard Kupiec, New York Mills, and Mary Kogut, New York Mills, ten grandchildren, Robin Piedmonte, Kenneth, John and Glenn Ballard, Elizabeth and Thomas Kupiec, Nicholas, Amanda Alison and Mary Kate Kogut, five great grandchildren, Morgan and Erica Piedmonte, Spencer, Ellis and Jack Ballard, and a nephew and his wife Davy and Kathy Campbell and their daughter, Katherine. Margaret was predeceased by a son-in-law, Joseph Kogut and two sisters, Gertrude Mroszek and Helen Campbell. Mrs. Howell's funeral will be held on Saturday March 24, 2007 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from Our Lady of The Rosary Church, New Hartford. A spring burial will take place in Glenside Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 5-8. Those so wishing may make donations to the Arthritis Foundation in Margaret's memory. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Jerry Sloan, Judy Neal and the Visiting Nurses Association for all the loving care and kindness shown to Margaret.
