Leona A. Mandeville New Hartford ? Utica Leona A. Mandeville, 98, a resident of the Presbyterian home for CNY, formerly of Marcy, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 at the home. Leona was born in Utica on March 26, 1909, the daughter of Leon and Jessie (Warner) Arthur. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Utica Free Academy. Leona went on to earn her bachelors degree from Ithaca College. She became a music teacher, teaching in the Utica School District for thirty-two years until her retirement in 1969. On July 12, 1943, Leona married William Mandeville in New Milford, PA. Mr. Mandeville passed away in 1971. Leona was of the Baptist Faith. Leona is survived by one sister, Jessie Peek, Sherrill; two sisters-in-law, Isabel Arthur, Remsen, Margaret Arthur, Utica; a special niece and her husband, Janet and Bob Martin, Holland Patent; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Vera McCarthy, and three brothers, Charles, Leon Jr., and Chester Arthur. Leona's funeral service will be held Monday evening, September 24, 2007 at 6:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Interment, in Norwich Corners Cemetery, will take place at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 ? 6 pm prior to the funeral service. Those wishing may donate to the Chester Arthur, Sr. Memorial Fund in Leona's memory. The family extends their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Presbyterian Residential Community as well as the Aspen Wing of the Presbyterian Home for CNY for the care and kindness given to Leona during her stay.
