John J. Baran Obituary

John J. Baran, 64, of Floyd passed away unexpectedly on Monday April 2, 2007. John was born in Utica on July 15, 1942 the son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Zizio) Baran. In Utica on April 4, 1964 John married Charmaine Gotie, a blessed union of 35 years until her passing on August 8, 1999. For several years John was the proprietor of the Howard Johnsons in North Utica then later until his retirement he was employed with the Turning Stone Casino as manager of the convention center. After his retirement John's passion was gardening, fishing and feeding the wild life around his house, but above all he was devoted to his family and extremely devoted to his grandchildren. John is survived by his daughter, Kendall Baran, Floyd, his son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Valarie Baran, Rome, five beloved grandchildren, Briana, Madison Rose, Ricky, Nicholas and Cory, a sister-in-law, Linda Frisillo, New Hartford, a son-in-law, Felix Steppello, Utica, a niece, Dana , two nephews, Ed and Jay and his many close friends. John was also a devoted godfather to several godchildren. John was predeceased by his father-in-law, William Gotie in 1984 and his mother-in-law, Teresa Gotie, in 2007. Mr. Baran's funeral service will be held on Saturday April 7, 2007 at 9:30 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4-7. John's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks the Floyd Fire Department for all their efforts.
