Joseph Guba Obituary

Joseph J. Guba, Sr. Marcy Mr. Joseph J. Guba, Sr. 87 of Marcy passed away on Wednesday February 7, 2007 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. Joseph was born in Yorkville, December 15, 1919 the son of John and Louise Guba and received his education in local schools. As a US Air force veteran, Joseph honorably served his country during WW II the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of dedicated service. He was the proud recipient of the Bronze Star. On January 27, 1952 Joseph married Helen Gajda in St. Stanislaus Church in Utica and Loving union of 42 years until Helen's death in 1994. After his retirement from the Air Force, Joseph returned to work as an aircraft mechanic with Griffiss Air Force base retiring in 1984. Mr. Guba is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Jr. and Kim Guba, Marcy; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Stephen Klepfer, New Hartford, Dawn and Rev. Thomas Cohick, VA and Robin and Thomas Zumpano, Whitesboro; 10 grandchildren, Joseph III, Justin, Jordan, Thomas, Tatum, Taylor, Thomas II, Heather, Brandon and Courteney; two sisters, Mary McCabe, New Hampshire and Statia Cimino, Yorkville; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Gladys Guba, Utica and several nieces and nephews, he was predeceased by three sisters, Helen Shaw, Josephine Sullivan and Gladys Jones and one brother, Edward Guba. Mr. Guba's funeral will be held on Saturday February 10, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica with Joseph's son-in-law, Rev. Thomas Cohick officiating. Burial with military honors will be Monday February 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Woods Rd., Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday 5-8 prior to the service. Mr. Guba's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Dilip Kachare and the nursing staff at St. Luke's Hospital ICU for the care and compassion given to Joseph.
