George Kenneth Oister, 80 of Stage Rd., Marcy, passed away Sept.15, 2007 at St. Luke's Healthcare Center after an extended illness. George was born in Reading, PA., on January 16, 1927 to Kenneth W. and Beulah V. (Miller) Oister. He attended schools in Pottsville, PA. After high school graduation, George served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 on a LCIM 633 ship going to Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Hawaii, Ulethe, San Diego, Panama Canal and back to Boston. In 1947, George took advantage of the GI Bill and attended Milwaukee school of Engineering, earning his B.S. Degree in 1950, his M.S. Degree from the Univ. of Pennsylvania and his Doctorate from MIT. In 1969, he earned a Doctorate Degree in Nuclear Physics from Cal-Tec Pasadena, CA. George also developed several patents on scientific inventions. In 1957, in Collinswood, NJ, George was married to Rosemary Klein, who passed away in 2001. George was married to Susanna Waterman Anderhalt in 2002. George was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica; the American Legion Post 229 of Utica; and American Legion Post 1376 of New Hartford. George was an avid outdoorsman and was an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his wife Susanna, two sons and daughter in laws; Kenneth and Lisa Oister of Phoenix, AZ., and Glenn and Jana Oister of Cherokee, OK., 4 step-children; Ruth Chambers, Robert Waterman, Jeanette Mincks, and Susan Hawk all of CA . George also leaves 3 grand children and 22 step-grand children. Mr. Oister's funeral service will be held Wednesday evening, Sept. 19, 2007 at 6:00 P.M. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica with the Rev. Richard Mokry of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. His burial at his family's convenience will be at Resurrection Cemetery in OK. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held from 5 til 6 prior to his service.
