Obituary of Gary E. Dunham

Gary E. Dunham, 61, of Deerfield, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center after a long illness, with his loving family by his side. Gary was born in New Hartford on April 29, 1946, the son of Gordon and Genevieve (Bolanowski) Dunham. He was raised and educated in the New York Mills school system. In 1965, Gary joined the US Navy, and served his country during the Vietnam War. On July 15, 1972, Gary married Mary Christiansen in St. Peter's Church, Utica, with whom he shared a blessed union of over 35 years. He was employed with Niagara Mohawk in New Hartford for over 32 years, until his retirement in 2004. Gary belonged to several organizations, including being a member of the 25 year Gas Lighters Club, a member of the Utica American Legion Post #229, and also the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Deerfield where he was affectionately known as "Weasel". Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid golfer. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Dunham, Deerfield; two cherished daughters, Nicole Dunham, Florida, Kristy Dunham and her fiancé, Adam Fiala, Nanuet, NY; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Gordyne Scardina, Florida, Sharon and Richard Adams, Ilion; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Gordon and Arlene Dunham, Oriskany, Kenneth Dunham, Yorkville; brothers-in-law and their wives, William and Elizabeth Christiansen, Deerfield, John and Carol Christiansen, North Carolina, Kenneth and Ellen Christiansen, New Hampshire, Richard and Mary Christiansen, Utica, Joseph and Ellen Christiansen, Utica, Peter and Marge Christiansen, Utica; sisters-in-law and a husband, Norma Christiansen, Marcy, Joan Marie and Thomas Sokolowski, Utica. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as many dear friends. Gary is predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Ronald Scardina, James and Douglas Christiansen. Gary's funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica, Monday evening, from 4 ? 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Gary's memory.
