CLINTON - Charles “Chuck” Edgar Hearty, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, New Hartford, with his loving family by his side.
Chuck was born March 2, 1932, in Boston, MA, son of Herbert and Eldred (Holloway) Hearty. He grew up in New England, where as a child had a passion for trains and trolleys and was a member of the Greater Trains and Trolleys Association of Boston. After high school, Chuck served his country with the US Navy as a sonar specialist. In 1956, Chuck married Audrey Pierson, in Florida. He went on to graduate from the University of Miami in 1960. Chuck and his young family then moved to Utica, where he was employed with General Electric as an aerospace engineer, working on the E2C Grumman Project for many years. He retired in 1990. In 1981, Chuck remarried, to Suzanne Nelson, in Whitesboro. Chuck was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clinton, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post #232, Franklin Springs. Chuck also belonged to the Elfun Society of Utica and was an extremely charitable person, helping local agencies. He was an avid bridge player and Boston sports fan, especially the Red Sox and the Patriots. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sue.
Chuck shared a special bond with his family, and will be deeply missed forever. He is survived by his four sons, Greg (and Ange) Hearty, Utica, Michael Hearty, Ilion, Adam (and Debra) Hearty, Marcy, Bret (and Lilly) Gunderman, Poland, NY. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Lynda, Alison, Aaron, Sarah, and Lauren. He also leaves a sister, Barb (and John) Reese, Santee, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews. His best friend, Wally Scott, will miss him tremendously. Chuck is predeceased by his cherished son, Bradley, in 1982, and by the love of his life, his wife, Suzanne, in 2000, and his beloved canine companion, Chauncey.
Mr. Hearty’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, with Military Honors, will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Clinton. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Tuesday evening, from 4 – 7 pm.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the PCU and ICU units at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, for their compassionate care of Chuck.
