Obituary of Edward B. Kain

Edward B. Kain, 87 of Utica passed away Wednesday May 23, 2007 at the Eastern Star Home with his loving family by his side. Edward was born in Utica on November 5, 1919 one of 12 children to Patrick and Anne (Connolly) Kain. At St. Patrick's Church, Utica on February 2, 1942 he married Dorothy Cook a blessed union of 65 years. Edward served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Edward joined the Utica Fire Department in 1950 serving his city for 24 years and achieving the rank of Captain retiring in 1974. During his life he also owned and operated the Triangle Coffee Shop, Kain's Tavern, Kain's Diner and the original Mr. Softie Ice Cream. After his retirement Edward used his culinary skills at St. Peter's Church, North Utica and Hamilton College. He was a member of the VFW Post #2001, Yorkville. Edward is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy, a daughter and son-in-law; Karen and Kurt Hameline, Utica, three sons and daughters-in-law; Terrence and Judith Kain, Utica, Brian and Kathy Kain, Utica and Paul and Linda Kain, Yorkville; 11 grandchildren and spouses whom Ed cherished; Corey Hameline, Christopher Hameline, Michael and Emily Kain, Kerri and Frank Cornacchia, Shawn and Diane Kain, Maureen Kain, Barry Kain Brendan Kain, Meghan and Scott LaHart, Daniel Kain and Eileen Kain, six great grandchildren; Nicholas Cornacchia, Abigail Cornacchia, Ian Kain, Ethan Kain, Justin Kain, and Kayla LaHart, in-laws; Marilyn Kain, Gloria St John and Allan and Theresa Cook and many nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by a infant grandson; Patrick Kain and now he will be reunited with his parents and 11 sisters and brothers in heaven who all went before him; Sara Tichena, Rose Costello, Agnes, Margaret, Catherine, and Marian Kain, Thomas, Henry, John(Frankie), Lawrence and Terrence Kain. Mr. Kain's funeral will be held on Saturday May 26, 2007 at 10:00 from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica are Friday (Today) from 4-8. Those so wishing may make donations to the Our Lady of Lourdes School Scholarship Fund in Edward's memory. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Eastern Star Home, especially the Jordan Unit and Karen Zick, Director of Nursing for the professional and compassionate care shown to Edward and his family.
