Doris K. Culkin, 89, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, formerly of Whitesboro, NY, passed away Saturday April 12, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born Doris Louise Krebser on August 26, 1918 in Utica, she is the daughter of Albert and Eva (Hamel) Krebser. She was raised in Utica and was a 1936 graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School. She later graduated from State University of NY at Canton in 1938. On October 10, 1945 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, Doris was married to Robert L. Culkin. Robert passed away on June 11, 1949. Doris worked varied retail jobs and retired from Steinbach's in New Hartford in 1980, after 16 years of service. She was a member of St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro. She enjoyed stitchery and reading. Some of her best times were spent playing Mah-Jongg and traveling with several of her dear friends. Doris is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Russell Williams of New Hartford, Joan and Paul Socha of Whitesboro; her grandchildren, Lisa (Dennis) Jones, Mark (Nicole) Williams, Laura Williams, David (Tamara) Socha, Dr. Eric (Julie) Socha, Alison (Jason) Gugnacki; and her cherished seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Nancy K. Evans of Syracuse, NY; one brother-in-law, John A. Horth of Venice, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Robert, Doris was predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Horth, Charlotte K. and Edward C. Heintz and Norbert R. Evans. Mrs. Culkin's funeral will be held Tuesday morning, April 15, 2008 at 9:30 at St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Her burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown, NY. Calling hours will be held Monday evening (today) from 4-7 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 E. Park Row, Clinton. The family would like to make a special thankyou to the nurses and staff of the Presbyterian Home for all their kindness and care over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris' memory would be appreciated to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
